Whether you forgot to to thaw the turkey in time or you just don’t want to cook, you won’t go hungry on Thanksgiving. Several area restaurants will be open on Thanksgiving Day this year. Many (if not most) require advance reservations, so make yours ASAP!

It’s not your traditional Thanksgiving meal, for sure, but a couple sushi restaurants will be open. Ahi Sushi Ramen and Grill, 12411 W. Center Road, Suite 101, is open on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Ajisai Sushi, 163 N. 78th St., Suite 163, will also be open on Thanksgiving Day. Ameristar Casino Hotel will have a Thanksgiving Day buffet from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buffet will include turkey, ham, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes & gravy, sage stuffing, shrimp cocktail, prime rib, and salmon coulibiac. Cost is $44.99. Address: 2200 River Road, Council Bluffs, Iowa
Beacon Hills will be open on Thanksgiving from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Traditional Turkey Dinner is $28 (or $14 for kids). Other entree options include prime rib, salmon or sliced pit ham. Reservations are suggested. Address: 6750 Mercy Road, Omaha, Neb.
Brother Sebastian’s Steakhouse & Winery will be open on Thanksgiving and serving a turkey dinner. Reservations are highly encouraged; call (402) 330-0300. Hours last year were noon to 7 p.m. and I suspect they will be similar this year. Address: 1350 S. 119th St., Omaha, Neb.
Carl’s at Mahoney State Park will have a Thanksgiving buffet with seating times at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The buffet features turkey and dressing, honey-glazed ham, and roast beef. Cost is $24.99 for adults, $10 for kids (ages 10 and under), and free for kids ages 3 and under. Reservations are required; call (402) 521-5711, ext. 6. Cascio’s Italian Steakhouse traditionally has been open on Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., though no details have been shared for 2024 yet. Reservations can be made at (402) 345-8312. Address: 1620 S. 10th St., Omaha, Neb.
J. Gilbert’s Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood is typically open on Thanksgiving Day. In 2023, they were open for lunch and dinner, though I have not found details for 2024 yet. Address: 1010 Capitol Ave., Omaha, Neb.
The Original Johnny’s Cafe, one of the city’s oldest restaurants, traditionally has a Thanksgiving Day meal in the afternoon. Once details are known, it’s recommended to make reservations ASAP; call (402) 731-4774. Address: 4702 S. 27th St., Omaha, Neb.
Orleans Room at Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel is open on Thanksgiving Day. Reservations are recommended. Address: 302 S. 36th St., Omaha, Neb.

Take-out Thanksgiving meals in 2024
For those who want to eat at home but don’t want to do all the cooking, there are take-out meals. Here are several Omaha Metro places that offer pre-ordered Thanksgiving meals (pick-up time and days vary):
- A Casserole To Go, 5520 Miller Ave., Ralston, Neb., is a division of Abraham Catering, and has delivery available in the Omaha Metro.
- A Catered Affair, 8531 N. 134th Ave., orders must be placed by Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. Pick-up is Wednesday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Here’s their 2024 Thanksgiving menu.
- A Venue on the Ridge & Fresh Catering & More, 20033 Elkhorn Ridge Drive, Elkhorn, Neb., offers Thanksgiving catering with pick-up/delivery options on Nov. 23, 24, 27 or 28.
- B’s Bones & Sauce has smoked and fried turkeys available for pre-order, as well as ham and prime ribs. Must order by Nov. 22 by phone or email, [email protected] and (402) 208-3786.
- Beacon Hills, 6750 Mercy Road, has a Thanksgiving to-go menu that includes turkey dinner with all the fixings (for 1 or 4), as well as individual meals of prime rib, maple-glazed salmon, or sliced pit ham. Orders must be made by Nov. 25.
- Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering, 2112 N. 30th St., Suite 201, offers a mix of soul food and comfort food catering, including their famous sweet potato pie for dessert.
- Conscious Comforts, 2320 Keystone Drive, offers Thanksgiving meals for pick-up or delivery on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Orders must be made by Nov. 22. Menu includes gluten-free vegetarian options. Here’s their menu.
- Eddie’s Catering, 5009 S. 24th St., offers Czech dinner carry-out and I’ve heard people recommend them for Thanksgiving (they’ve done a Czechsgiving Menu in the past)
- for the King charcuterie offers charcuterie boards for Thanksgiving with free delivery.
- Freestyle Flavors offers catering services for Thanksgiving meals, with options including roasted, smoked or deep-fried turkey; smoked brisket; and prime rib. Call (402) 917-1628 or email [email protected] to pre-order.
- Heirloom Fine Foods, 325 N. 72nd St., Suite 200, makes locally-sourced, organic, and scratch-made prepared turkey and sides for Thanksgiving take-out. Pick-up for meals is Wednesday, Nov. 27, from 3 to 6 p.m.
- Jams Midtown, 7814 Dodge St., offers three meal options for pre-order: Package 1 feeds 3-4, Package 2 feeds 8-10, and Package 3 feeds 12. A la carte options are also available. Orders must be placed by Nov. 22; call (402) 399-8300.
- Mealbox by Chef Wil Birge, 6571 Maple St., delivers the food to your door
- Modern Love, 3157 Farnam St., Suite 7113, offers pre-ordered vegan individual plates of Seitan Turki Thanksgiving Dinner and Smoked Turkey Thanksgiving Dinner, as well as sides and desserts. Pick-up can be scheduled for Nov. 25-27.
- Mouth of the South, 16909 Lakeside Hills Plaza, is a Cajun restaurant that offers catering for Thanksgiving with options like herb-smoked turkey breast, cornbread & sausage stuffing, and gouda macaroni and cheese. Orders must be made by Nov. 22, with pick up between Nov. 25-27. Call (531) 375-5391.
- Railcar Modern American Kitchen, 1814 N. 144th St., offers Thanksgiving to-go and catering options.
- Sauced by Alfaro, 115 N. Washington St., Papillion, Neb. has their popular hand-rolled hashholes (potato croquettes) available for pre-order in quantities 12, 18 or 24. Orders must be received via the restaurant’s Facebook page by Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., with payment due by Nov. 17 at noon. Pick-up will be on Nov. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Timber Wood Fire Bistro, 8702 Pacific St., offers Thanksgiving to-go and catering options.
- Veg.Edible, 2740 N. 61st St., has an all Thanksgiving take-out menu that’s vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free (except coconut). Pre-orders are required, but there are no cut-off dates yet (though items will sell out). Pick-up is Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
