I love the variety of shopping in Omaha. We have tons locally owned boutiques and shops, as well as huge retailers in our malls and outlet malls. Whatever you need, you’ll probably find it in Omaha. Here’s a guide to some of the best shopping centers in the city.
Boutiques & locally-owned shops
I'll be the first to point out this is not a complete list of locally-owned shops and boutiques. These are just a few of my favorites.
Peave a comment and share your favorites that I should check out.
Bookworm
Address: 2501 S. 90th St., suite 111
The Bookworm has been around since 1986, and has grown to be the largest family-owned bookstore in Omaha. Author events, book clubs, and children's storytimes are held regularly at the store.
City Limits
Address: 1114 Howard St.
If I need a funny gift, I always go to City Limits in the Old Market. You’ll find books, socks, puzzles, and an assortment of tchotchkes for home and office. It’s my favorite place for White Elephant gifts and weird stocking stuffers.
Dundee Book Co.
Address: 4915 Underwood Ave.
I love local bookstores, no matter the size. Dundee Book may be small, but the selection of new fiction, non-fiction, and poetry is remarkable. It feels like your browsing the shelf of a cool, well-read friend.
Dundee Flea
Address: 4973 Dodge St.
Dundee Flea isn’t all second-hand, but your forgiven is you think it would be. The store is a mix of old and new, vintage and trendy. There’s a mix of décor and furniture in the store.
Four Sisters Boutique
Address: 2900 S. 110th Court
I’ll admit, I’m probably slightly older than their target shopper but, man, is this shop cute. I could probably pull off one of their comfy sweatshirts or a snarky coffee mug, but I’ll leave the jumpers and short dresses to you younger ladies.
Fluff Market
Address: 12100 W. Center Road, suite 906
I could linger in Fluff Market for hours, though it’s a small store so it’d get weird eventually. Fluff has mostly home décor and furniture for sale arranged stylishly to make you want to buy all the things.
Found Vintage Market
Address: 6022 Maple St.
I may have spent the most money at Found, just because I truly believe they are designing a store just for me. While there are vintage or repurposed items in the store, the ladies at Found Vintage Market also have new items that are a mix of rustic, shabby chic and bohemian. They’ll also do custom painting for an of your vintage finds that need a touch-up.
There’s a sister store in Bennington called Earl & Gray.
Gramercy
Address: 8711 Countryside Plaza
Gramercy is a boutique in Countryside Village that I imagine I would shop in if I made just a smidge (OK, a lotta smidge) more money. The latest trends in women’s fashion and accessories can be found here, and since things are purchased in small quantities, it’s very unlikely you’ll find someone wearing the same thing when you go out.
There is a sister store in West Omaha called Garment District.
Hollywood Candy
Address: 1209 Jackson St.
If you like your sugar rush with a mix of nostalgia, head to Hollywood Candy. There’s a selection of candies, obviously, as well as collectibles, an ice cream shop, and a vintage pinball machine area.
Homer's Music
Address: 1210 Howard St.
Homer's has been around for more than 50 years, and has always been a great sourcee for music. Even local bands find support here. Their selection of new & used CDs, vinyls and DVDs is the largest in Nebraska.
Hutch
Address: 1102 N. 12th St.
Hutch is a gorgeous furniture store that sells a mix of new modern and locally-made handcrafted items, and even some vintage stuff occasionally.
Made in Omaha
Address: 1012 Howard St., 8722 Pacific St., 16901 Wright Plaza, suie 163
The concept of Made In Omaha is so brilliant, I wonder why no one did it before. At each location, you’ll find all sorts of good stuff made by Omahans, from soap and coffee to sweatshirts, earrings, and dog bowties (probably). I guarantee you’ll find the perfect gift here.
Next Chapter Books
Address: 2508 Farnam St.
Next Chapter Books is the little bookshop you always wished was on your street. I always find a book when I stop in -- "just to browse" --, and I've had good luck finding unique presents, as well.
Nouvelle Eve
Address: 1102 Howard St.
This Old Market boutique is a go-to for an outfit to impress. I’ve gone here for a New Year’s Eve party look. It’s one of the city’s long-running shops – open since 1973 – and has survived even after a devastating fire.
Pretty In Patina
Address: 1449 S. 13th St.
Looking for second-hand designer goods like handbags and sunglasses? Make your way to this luxury second-hand boutique in Omaha’s Little Bohemia neighborhood.
Rooted Soul Boutique
Address: 7640 Towne Center Pkwy Suite 110, Papillion, Neb.
The suburbs of Omaha used to lack locally-owned stores, but smart women are bucking the trend and opening boutiques in unexpected places – particularly in shopping centers like Shadow Lake Towne Center. Rusted Soul Boutique is locally-owned and one of the few stores to offer clothes in sizes up to 3X.
The Simple Man
Address: 8712 Pacific St.
Simply put, The Simple Man is a no-fuss, locally-owned men's store. It's my go-to when shopping for local gifts for my husband, since everything's well-made and there is occasisonally a Big Lebowski reference on something there.
Prairie in Bloom
Address: 1702 Cuming St. and new location at 140th and Center streets
Prairie in Bloom is a beautifully curated home décor that sells a mix of farmhouse and industrial styles. If I could buy all the things in this store, I’d be one happy homeowner. The original location is in downtown Omaha, and the new (and larger) second location is in West Omaha
Rosie Jane
Address: 5018 Leavenworth St.
We don’t have a whole lot of children’s boutiques in Omaha, but the ones we have hit it out of the ballpark. Rosie Jane is simply the cutest thing, and it almost makes you want to egg your friends on to have another baby so you had a reason to buy something small and cute again. Almost. If you have nieces and nephews to spoil, this is where to shop, especially if you like finding organic or sustainably-made items.
Spruce
Address: 5022 Leavenworth St.
Spruce is not quite a home décor store and not just a store for gifts. It’s both and then some. You’ll find some of the most unique gifts here. PS, it’s right next to Rosie Jane so you can hit both stores in one stop!
Statement Boutique
Address: 8728 Countryside Plaza
Another great find in Countryside Village, Statement is a gorgeous little store with fashionable clothes for women. I rather like them for their cozy pajamas and cute gifts.
Not on the list above, but still a local favorite-turned-major-business is the giant Nebraska Furniture Mart. It started with humble beginnings in Omaha and you can still shop for appliances, decor, computers and more at the Omaha location on 72nd Street.
Your turn: Tell me about your favorite Omaha shops. I love finding new local businesses to support!
Outdoor Shopping Centers and Outlet Malls
In recent years, outdoor shopping centers have grown in popularity in Omaha. Many outdoor shopping centers in the citty have a mix national/global brands and locally-owned stores.
Aksarben Village
Address: 67th and Center streets
A stylish mix of retail stores include locally-owned greats like Spirit World and Greenstreets (for bikes), plus newish places like The Book Nook and Fleet Feet. Can’t also not mention lululemon has a pop-up store there that seems to be semi-permanent. There are a few stand-alone restaurants, plus the popular Inner Rail Dining Hall. There’s also a locally-owned cinema there.
Aksarben Village is a very lively place with frequent events ranging from free concerts to music festivals, plus the seasonal farmers market every Sunday morning.
Countryside Village
Address: 8722 Countryside Plaza
I’ve spent a lot of time at Countryside Village thanks to my kids frequently attending classes and camps at the McGuigan Arts Academy at Rave On Productions. But, you’re here for shopping, right?
For how (relatively) small Countryside Village is, it packs a punch when it comes to local stores. Clothing boutiques include The Simple Man, The Mix, and Statement Boutique. For gifts and home décor, browse Village Pomegranate, The Linen Gallery, or Amethyst Home. Don’t forget to get a caffeine fix at The Village Grinder or a sweet treat at Le Quartier.
The Casual Pint often section off a portion of the parking lot to have an extra-large outdoor seating area and occasionally live music.
Midtown Crossing
Address: Between 31st & 33rd streets and Farnam & Dodge streets
For me, Midown Crossing is a place to go to do stuff beyond shopping (outdoor concerts, Alamo Drafthouse, and great restaurants). But, yes, there are a couple of shops too. My favorite is Long Dog Fat Cat, a local store for pet supplies.
To play a game or buy one, don't miss out on Spielbound Boad Game Cafe.
Nebraska Crossing Outlets
Address: 21209 Nebraska Crossing Drive, Gretna, Neb.
There aren’t many outlet malls in this area, so luckily we’ve got one of the Midwest’s best that’s a short drive from Omaha. Nebraska Crossing has several global retail brands, including Cole Haan, J. Crew, Kate Spade, Coach, The North Face, Vineyard Vines, and soon, an REI will open there.
I like that the outdoor shopping center has a few satellite locations of Omaha restaurants in the mix there, including Voodoo Taco and Dragoon Wok.
One Pacific Place
Address: 10381 Pacific St.
One of the OC lux outdoor shopping centers in Omaha, One Pacific Place has been an established go-to spot for high-end shopping for many years. There’s Sur La Table and Trader Joe’s, as well as more typical mall retailers like Eddie Bauer and Talbots.
Rockbrook Village
Address: 2800 S 110th Court
Rockbrook Village is one of those quieter shopping centers that has some true hidden gems. Home to Four Sisters Boutique and the super cute stationary store, RSVP, I also recommend scouting out Blooms if you get the chance. One of the newest shops to open up there is the Casanova’s Butchery.
Rockbrook has a summer concert series and plans seasonal events for Halloween and Christmas.
Shops of Legacy
Address: 168th Street and West Center Road
Legacy is more of an upscale outdoor shopping center than some of the others, with a good mix of boutiques and restaurants. A few notable shops in the area are Rockbrook Camera, the kids’ boutique Posh Princess, and stylish women’s apparel at Garment District.
The local restaurants in the shopping center are fantastic. Among my favorites are Dante, Shucks, Stir Coffee Bar, and Blatt Beer + Table.
Village Pointe
Address: 17305 Davenport St.
Anchor stores: Apple Store, lululemon, Scheels
If it’s trendy or only found in one location in Omaha, it’s probably at Village Pointe. Some of the more notable stores are Athleta, Goodly Cookies, Sephora, Coach, Lush, and Kendra Scott. Most restaurants are not local, but there are a few exceptions to point out: 402 Eat + Drink; Local Beer, Patio & Kitchen; and On Pointe Nutrition.
Once you’re done shopping, there’s a Marcus Theaters Cinema at Village Pointe, as well as Funny Bone Comedy Club
Indoor malls in Omaha
Given Omaha's extreme weather in the summer and winter, many shopper prefer their malls indoors still. Here are a few indoor shopping malls in the city.
Westroads Mall
Address: 10000 California St.
Anchor stores: The Container Store, Dick’s Sporting Goods, JC Penney, Von Maur
Westroads has managed to survive and thrive in a world that’s kinda moved on from indoor malls. It’s home to the state’s first-ever food hall, Flagship Commons (with notable local restaurants like Blatt), and that in itself is reason enough to visit. In addition to some of the typical mall highlights (like H&M, Vans, Old Navy), the mall also has a few nail salons, an escape room, and AMC Theatres.
Oak View Mall
Address: 3001 S. 144th St.
Anchor stores: Rush Market, Dillards, JC Penney
While it's not the bustling mall of my youth, Oak View Mall hangs in there with a few typical mall shops, like Build-A-Bear and Bath & Body Works, as well as locally-owned ones like Rush Market, a unique home decor and furnishings store.
The revamped food court is worth checking out, esspecially Canteen Alley, which is home to Chicago Dog 42. Kids eat for free on weekday nights from 4 to 7 p.m., too.
Regency Shopping Center
Address: 120 Regency Parkway
Anchor store: Borsheims
Small but full of great retailers, Regency Court is home to upscale stores like Anthropologie, Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn, as well as the Omaha icon, Borsheims. The shopping center’s Santa is a city-wide favorite each holiday season.
