Celebrating Thanksgiving with family is still up in the air, but I’m already thinking about a Plan B. What if we can’t get together? Do I make a whole turkey? And I can’t bake. What are we going to do? Order takeout food? Yes.
I don’t know. 2020 is just too flipping weird. But, it’s good to have a plan, so I’ve started compiling a list of all the local restaurants that will be selling Thanksgiving meals to-go.
Omaha area restaurants & grocers with Thanksgiving to-go
Big Mama’s Kitchen And Catering
Where: 2112 N. 30th St., Suite 201, Omaha
For the ultimate comfort food, there is no other place than Big Mama’s. The soul food eatery will have Thanksgiving Day pickup this year. Options include a turkey dinner with two sides and cornbread for $18 (single serving).
You can order online for curbside pickup.
Where: 1620 S. 10th St., Omaha
The downtown classic Italian steakhouse is offering from-scratch Thanksgiving to-go options serving 1-8 people this year. It includes turkey and “all the fixins.” You’ll want to pre-order this meal. They are open on Thanksgiving, so you may be able to pick-up your dinner on the big day.
Where: 1915 Jackson St., Omaha
Every year, my office has its holiday party at Catering Creations and every year, it’s a mad rush to scoop the most mashed potatoes onto our plates. So, when I heard they had Thanksgiving meal delivery options, my interest was piqued.
You can opt for the chef-prepared full meal (for 4-6 people) or pick-and-choose your own menu. Delivery or pick-up is from Nov. 22-25.
Where: 4702 S. 27th St., Omaha
Johnny’s Cafe, one of Omaha’s longest-running restaurants is closing its dining room on Thanksgiving, but they’re not leaving their fans without good food. They’re offering prime rib dinners and turkey dinners, with all the sides and dessert, for pre-order.
Turkey dinner options are $24.95 (serves 2), $49.95 (serves 4), and $75.95 (serves 6). For the prime rib dinner, it’s $135 (serves 6).
Pick-up will be on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Where: 2501 S. 90th St., Omaha
This charming restaurant offers portioned meals for 2-8 people (and ranging from $40-$180), including roasted turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, honey-glazed veggies, cranberry sauce and choice of pie. You’ll need to order in advance and pick it up on Nov. 25.
You can bring in your own serving trays and dishes to make it seem more like you did all the work. Sneaky! More details at Market Basket’s website.
Where: 3157 Farnam St., Suite 7113, Omaha
Arguably the best vegan restaurant in Omaha is offering Thanksgiving meals to-go this year. You can order from Modern Love by the item or choose the Bouquet Bundle ($92). Each item serves 6+, and options include stuffed faux turkey roast, baked pumpkin mac & cheese, creamy mashed potatoes, pumpkin praline cheesecake or peanut butter candy bar cheesecake. There are a lot of menu items! The bundle includes dinner for 6 plus a flower centerpiece.
Patricia Catering & Cocktails
Where: 436 Galvin Road N, Bellevue, Neb.
I’ve heard great things about Patricia Catering in a few Omaha Facebook groups. The Bellevue caterer is offering individual boxed Thanksgiving meals for $12 per person as well as family-sized pans, making it a pretty affordable option.
Orders need to be placed by Nov. 18. Pick-up or delivery is on Nov. 25.
Porky Butts BBQ
Where: 15475 Ruggles St., Omaha
We ordered Porky Butts BBQ for a family meal and it was ah-mazing. I say it counts as a Thanksgiving meal if you order some smoked turkey.
And FYI: They say the Porky’s Platter serves 4 to 6 people but you will definitely have leftovers.
Railcar Modern American Kitchen and Timber
Where: 1814 N. 144th St., Omaha and 8702 Pacific St., Omaha
I’ve been told by the social media crew running Railcar and Timber that both restaurants will have a Thanksgiving takeout option. I haven’t seen a menu or heard any additional details, so we’ll just say everything is TBD.
Wohlner’s Neighborhood Grocery & Deli
Where: 3253 Dodge St., Omaha,
Wohlner’s has Thanksgiving meals with all the trimmings available to order now. They have three options: Two that serve 8 people (a turkey or ham dinner), and one that serves 12.
Give them at least a 48-hour notice, and there is a pre-payment of $25.
Chain restaurants and grocers in Omaha with premade Thanksgiving meals
Ameristar Casino & Hotel Council Bluffs
Where: 2200 River Road, Council Bluffs, Iowa
Yes, I’m the first one to say… “Casino?” But, bear with me. While this casino’s buffet remains closed, Bella’s is serving holiday meals to-go. You can pre-order by Nov. 21 for pick-up on Wednesday, Nov. 25, or Thursday, Nov. 26.
The price is pretty good for a meal that serves up to 4 – $74.99, and comes with your choice of slow-roasted turkey or bourbon-glazed ham, sides, and choice of pie. Call (712) 328-8888 and press 3 or order online.
Where: 12300 West Dodge Road, Omaha, and 12515 Portside Parkway, La Vista, Neb. (though you can order this online)
Costco has possibly the lowest priced meals for Thanksgiving…also probably the least homemade. Anyway.
You can get the Schwan’s Thanksgiving Meal for 8 for $104.99, and everything can be cooked without thawing. It comes with two pies and ice cream, even.
You’ll want to order by Nov. 17 to get it shipped in time. While you aren’t preparing the food, you will be warming it up.
Tip: The last time I checked, Costco was offering a $15 off discount on these meals.
Where: 9409 S. 142nd St., Omaha, and 530 30th Ave., Council Bluffs, Iowa
Cracker Barrel locations are offering a variety of Heat & Serve Meals this year, including the Heat & Serve Feast that feeds 8-10 people for $139.99. For groups of 4-6, they have a ham meal or turkey meal for $69.99. Meals include pies and sides.
You’ll need to order at least 24 hours in advance.
Tip: Order the Heat & Serve Feast and schedule pickup for Nov. 23 or 24 and receive a $10 Bonus Card. This is a limited time offer so I don’t know how long it sticks around.
Hog Wild Pit BBQ & Catering
Where: 4950 S .108th St., Omaha, and 905 W. Broadway Council Bluffs, Iowa
For smoked meats and sides for 8-10 people, Hog Wild has a meal offering (plus reheating instructions). I heard it’s a choice of smoked ham or turkey plus two quarts of mashed potato and gravy, stuffing, green beans or corn for $89.99.
Where: Find the nearest Hy-Vee here
Hy-Vee catering offers a good range of Thanksgiving dinner options that can affordably feed a lot of people. Options include the Turkey Party Pleaser (serves 8) for $89.99 and the Crowd’s Choice Gourmet Ham & Turkey dinner (serves 12) for $269.99.
Where: 13433 I Circle, Omaha; 17390 W. Center Road, Omaha; and 4400 S. 96th St., Omaha
Omaha Steaks is, well, known for its steaks, but they also have a few large Thanksgiving meals you can order ahead of time.
Tip: You can find feasts with beef, as well.
Where: 10020 Regency Circle, Omaha
Whole Foods is offering a vegan Thanksgiving meal in partnership with Chef Jenné Claiborne, author of “Sweet Potato Soul: 100 Easy Vegan Recipes.” It sounds delicious and includes pumpkin pie.
Where: 120 Regency Parkway, Suite 150, Omaha
You want free-range? You want organic? You really want to impress people? Williams-Sonoma has some exquisite Thanksgiving meals for delivery.
Meals serving between 4 and 12 people include Southern-style, a Martha Stewart meal, and a Portland, Ore., deli Thanksgiving spread.
What if you just want the pie?
Maybe you like the cook a big Thanksgiving spread, and you simply want to leave the dessert to an expert. I hear you.
I found 15+ excellent (and local) bakers and bakeries to order your Thanksgiving pie or dessert to complete the feast.
I’m looking for more local restaurants that will be offering premade Thanksgiving meal options. Leave a comment if you know of any others!
