La Casa Pizzaria and me go way back. I first tasted the iconic restaurant’s Margherita pizza 20 years ago, and since then, I’ve argued that it’s the best pizza in Omaha with anyone who would listen. It’s that good.

Of course, others are entitled to their opinions. But, there’s no denying La Casa Pizzaria has been around for 70 years for a reason: Their food is good. So, if you haven’t been to this Omaha classic, hopefully after reading this, you will plan a visit to the restaurant located at 4432 Leavenworth St. (just a short drive from downtown Omaha).

What makes La Casa Pizzaria’s pizza special?
Good question. As mentioned before, they have a pizza crust that’s pretty unique in the Omaha metro. The pizza itself is Neapolitan-style, served at the table on a baking sheet. Mental Floss named it Nebraska’s best pizza in its ranking for each state. La Casa has a pizza crust unlike any other in Omaha.

The crust is the best part, though, and there have been fights in my family over who gets the last corner piece because of it. How can I describe it? It’s firm, chewy and flavored dough, like the perfect thin breadstick.
The most popular pizza at La Casa is the hamburger, but like I said, my favorite is the Margherita. The Margherita is a vegetarian pizza for those who aren’t vegetarian, which is to say, they won’t miss the meat on this culinary masterpiece. I get a little hyperbolic when it comes to my pizza. But seriously, guys, La Casa uses flavorful chopped tomatoes, basil, and just the right amount of sauce and Romano cheese on its Margherita pizza, so I can’t help myself but gush about the result.
My kids, on the other hand, are loyal La Casa pepperoni pizza fans. There are 24 toppings to choose from, so if your kids are particular about their pizza, you will likely find what they love at La Casa. We’ll usually order half- pepperoni pizza and half-Margherita to appease all of us.
Must-order food
As one of Omaha’s oldest restaurants, there are a few staples on the menu that are pure comfort foods that I hope will never go away like the eggplant parmesan, lasagna or toasted ravioli appetizer. But, the restaurant has evolved to appeal to a younger generation who expect certain dietary accommodations, so there are also gluten-free crust and dairy-free cheese available.

Plus, the restaurant incorporates seasonal flavors into some of the dishes like the arancini appetizer – breaded and fried rice balls – and the canneloni entree. Check the specials menu for what the current offering is.
As far as the food you’ve got to try on your next visit to La Casa Pizzaria, here are my top suggestions:
- Toasted ravioli for an appetizer
- Margherita pizza, of course
- And for dessert (all are made in-house), I recommend the tiramisu or the cassata cake, which is a layered Italian wedding cake. You’re probably wondering which one of those to choose, and I say, get both and share with the table. Why limit yourself, right?
