Bloggers From Omaha – Joanna Murnan

Kim’s note: This is the 20th installment in a series introducing different voices from around Omaha. Each week Whenever I can, I’ll introduce a different Omaha blogger, what his or her blog is all about, and since I love getting recommendations as much as I love giving them, I’ve asked each person to share some Omaha tips. Today’s blogger, Joanna, is a mom of two adorable little girls. Head to her blog for inspiration on activities for kids and fitness ideas for busy moms.

Describe your blog in five words. Motherhood: Authentic. Honest. Helpful. Fun.
What are the two most popular posts on your blog? What makes them so good?
My post on how to make an Elsa cupcake dress is a longstanding popular post. It looks like Frozen fever is still going strong! Plus, who doesn’t love cupcakes?!
One of Joanna’s most popular posts taps into “Frozen” mania (that still grips my daughter). Photo courtesy Joanna Murnan
My top post for 2015 was The Top 5 Yoga Poses for Breastfeeding Moms. Most of my readers are young mothers, so I really try to provide tailored information that’s useful for this particular stage of life. The post has wonderful photos that really demonstrate how to properly do each move. It’s a great resource for moms!

What social media channel are you on the most and why?
Instagram is my favorite by a long shot. It’s quick, easy, and I absolutely love getting a glimpse into other people’s lives! Plus, it’s great to look back at my own account and see all of the fun memories I’ve captured over the years.

You get one hour to spend on writing, where in Omaha do you go?
You would find me in quiet corner at Scooters splurging on a turtle latte and a giant chocolate chip cookie. Being properly caffeinated is a must for writing!

If friends visit from out of town, what three places would you take them to?
Oh this is hard! We always make a stop by the Henry Doorly Zoo and the little ones love hitting up the Omaha Children’s Museum. I’d have add in brunch at Over Easy because that’s my new favorite breakfast spot!

What’s your favorite free thing to do in Omaha?
The Downtown Farmers Market is always a blast in the summer! We load up our girls and our dog Ruby and spend the morning sampling goodies and finding new favorite vendors. I guess it’s “free” if you can manage not to buy anything 😉

What are the two most popular posts on your blog? What makes them so good?

Ironically, this one and this one. I think they’ve been so successful because they’re an incredibly personal look into my life/family. Both feature one of my sisters (I have three) and are more emotionally-driven than my more surface-level posts regarding fashion & fitness.

What social media channel are you on the most and why? Instagram for sure. I love being able to capture moments with a single picture & a short caption. It’s fun to share such small pieces of my day, plus I find TONS of inspiration there. From outfits to new workouts to interior design and motivational quotes, I scroll Insta way more than probably necessary. 🙂

You get one hour to spend on writing, where in Omaha do you go? If the weather is good, I love to grab a big cozy blanket and head to Lake Cunningham (next to the lighthouse) where my view is unobstructed and I feel like I’m miles from the hustle & bustle, yet only minutes away. If it’s not so nice, Fox Hollow Coffee Shop is my go-to. I love the people, the drinks, and the sweet little fireplace.

If friends visit from out of town, what three places would you take them to? Lucky Bucket Brewery for a tour, appetizers & drinks at M’s Pub, and the zoo!

What’s your favorite free thing to do in Omaha? Go for a long run around Lake Zorinksy with my hubby and our Labradoodle, Beckett!
