Watermelon Festival
Nelson Produce Farm's Sixth Annual Watermelon Festival will be held over two weekends: Aug. 3 & 4 and Aug. 10 & 11. Highlights include the farm's famous watermelon slushie, watermelon bus rides, watermelon eating contest, seed spitting contest, hayrack ride, face painting, Tri-ath-melon, all-you-can-eat watermelon buffet, exploding watermelon, and live music.
Root Beer Float Day
The Durham Museum celebrates Root Beer Float Day each year by giving away a free 8 oz. Root Beer Float (while supplies last) at the museum's old-fashioned Soda Fountain. The day also includes science demonstrations by Dr. Oxygen from 1 to 2 p.m. and games. Included with museum admission, and free for members.
