Peterson Park (Gretna)
Description
Peterson Park is a great spot for families, especially with kids who love to ride bikes or scooters. The kids brought their bikes and had a blast riding around the path. The playground has a mix of wood chips and rubber surfacing, though only part of the park is handicap accessible. There’s also a cement walking path that loops around the park with a story walk along the way.
The park has two separate play areas. The inclusive playground has rubber surfacing, and includes a roller coaster-like swing that has a harness to secure kids. It also had adaptive swings and teeter totter, and something called a Sway Fun. My kids loved the that area of the park, especially the rollercoaster swing.
The other area is a little older, and very well maintained and a loved park based on all the memorial benches donated. The swing sets include three baby swings, a baby + adult swing, three traditional swings, and two adaptive swings. There are tons of different playground options, including a twist slide and shorter straight slide, monkey bars, and ride on toys like a merry go round with horses and an airplane.
There is tons of shade from big trees and three picnic shelters, plus plenty of seating with benches. The park also has a full basketball court, electricity available at the shelters, and tons of trash cans and recycling bins. There’s also a Little Free Library.
The park is tucked into a neighborhood but still easy to access right off busy Gretna Road. Parking is decent with two medium-sized lots. Overall, it’s a clean, well-maintained park with a lot to offer for families and groups.
