While there aren’t a lot of campsites in Omaha, the camping options near Omaha are abundant. From backcountry tent camping to RV sites and luxury glamping in a dome, a quick and easy weekend getaway outdoors is just a few miles away.

Tent Camping Near Omaha
There's something about tent camping. It's the closest you can get to nature - just some fabric seperating you from the wild. Well, the wild of the Midwest.
But still.
Lake Cunningham Campground
Distance from Omaha: Within city limits
8305 Rainwood Road, Omaha
Therrer are seven tent sites for primitive camping, all located near the modern bathroom and shower house.
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium
Distance from Omaha: Within city limits
3701 S. 10th St., Omaha
Omaha's zoo offers a couple of different camping opportunities for families, groups and adults. In the Desert Dome, campers bring their own tents. in the aquarium, it's usually sleeping bags-only. Tents equipped with cots are also set up in the African Grasslands.
Lake Manawa State Park
Distance from Omaha: 8 miles from Omaha
1100 S. Shore Drive, Council Bluffs, Iowa
Lake Manawa State Park opened a campground in 2022. The lake has a sand beach and a popular playground.
One thing to note is that the campground is closed mid-October to mid-April.
Elkhorn Shores
Distance from Omaha: 16 miles
233rd and West Maple Road, Elkhorn, Neb.
(previously known as RiversWest)
Tent camping is available, and each site includes a picnic table and firepit. The campground has a beach, outdoor movies, concerts, and festivals (including some wicked Halloween events).
Hitchcock Nature Center
Distance from Omaha: 17 miles
27792 Ski Hill Loop, Honey Creek, Iowa
Hitchcock has nine first-come, first-served tent sites that include satellite restrooms (non-flush), shower facilities nearby, water hydrant located near restrooms, picnic table, fire ring, wifi. There are also seven backcountry camp sites that have a f ire ring and camping pad.
Tubing & Adventures
Distance from Omaha: 24 miles
25205 Harrison St, Waterloo, Neb.
While primarily an outfitter for river tubing trips, the 55-acre property does offer tent camping along the riverfront. Amenities include outdoor game area, portable restrooms, heated/enclosed showers, rinse-off showers, basketball court, and a volleyball court. Fishing is available in the pond and along the river.
In 2024, the rate was $10 per person for the first night, and $5 per person for subsequent nights. Kids under 8 camp free.
Louisville State Recreation Area
Distance from Omaha: 27 miles from Omaha
15810 NE-50, Louisville, Neb.
Louisville SRA has 13 all-weather pads without electricity, as well as 75 units on primitive, non-designated sites. Newly upgraded camping facilities include showers and restrooms. This state recreation area features five sandpit lakes, one of which is open for swimming and has a floating playground. Fishing is popular here.
There's a convenience store at the lake that serves up some great ice cream, too.
Two Rivers State Recreation Area
Distance from Omaha: 30 miles
27702 F St, Waterloo, Neb.
Two Rivers offers tent camping sites. Modern restrooms, showers, drinking water, and a dump station are conveniently located. The 622-acre area boasts 320 acres of water in several sandpit lakes.
Besides a variety of fishing opportunities and non-powered boating, there is an unsupervised swimming beach, concession and an accessible fishing pier.
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park
Distance from Omaha: 30 miles
28500 W. Park Highway, Ashland, Neb.
Two campgrorunds, Little Creek and Lakeside, offer hard-surfaced pads near Owen Marina Lake. Modern shower/latrine buildings and drinking water are nearby. There is a coin-operated laundry in the shower building at Little Creek. Trailer dump stations and water are available near the park entrance.
Mahoney has a popular aquatic center open seasonally.
Platte River State Park
Distance from Omaha: 31 miles
14421 346th St, Louisville, Neb.
Platte River State Park offers both primative camping and basic camping. There are four first-come, first-served Basic sites. Reservations are accepted for 19 of the 48 campsites at Platte River State Park.
Amenities include a shower facility, modern restrooms, picnic table and fire ring/grills. There is a fenced dog park along with a playground.
There are also tepees available that accommodates 6-8 people. They have wooden floors.
Botna Bend Park
Distance from Omaha: 40 miles
42926 Mahogany Road, Hancock, Iowa
The park has eight camp sites throughout the park, each with a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. Sites are within walking distance of water hydrants and restroom facilities. Reservations are first come, first served.
Botna Bend Park is also home to bison and elk herds, as well as hiking trails, playground & nature playscape, and access to the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail.

RV camping. It's for those who like the comforts of home in a park setting.
Lake Cunningham Campground
Distance from Omaha: Within city limits
8305 Rainwood Road, Omaha
The West C Campground at Lake Cunningham has 41 concrete sites that are 60 feet x16 feet. The campground has three ADA-accessible sites that are slightly larger. Campground has a dump station, security, and a fresh water fill station. There's also a playground and abundant fishing.
On select weekends in Summer 2022, there will be concerts and food trucks at the lake.
Horseshoe Council Bluffs
Distance from Omaha: 4 miles
2701 23rd Ave., Council Bluffs, Iowa
Amenities at the RV campsites located next to the casino includde water and electric hookups, shower house, laundry facilities, and dump station. The big perk is that campers are steps away from the 24-hour casino, restaurants and the live music venue at Horseshoe.
Winsor Cove Camping and Recreation
Distance from Omaha: 13 miles
Haworth Park, 2052 Payne Drive, Bellevue, Neb.
Winsor Cove offers water and electric hookups (30 amp and 50 amp), and there is a dump station. In 2024, they opened new showers and bathrooms. In the summer 2024, the area was flooded, so currenlty they are taking reservations but they are not open.
Elkhorn Shores
Distance from Omaha: 16 miles
233rd and West Maple Road, Elkhorn, Neb.
(previously known as Riverwest Park)
RV sites are available at Elkhorn Shores. The campground has a beach, outdoor movies, concerts, and festivals (including some fun Halloween events).
Walnut Creek Lake and Recreation Area
Distance from Omaha: 17 miles
11902 Turkey Road, Papillion, Neb.
This RV park has 44 electric sites (30- or 50-amp). Amenities include city water available, and a dump station. Sites are first come first serve. For more information, call (402) 679-9889.
Walnut Creek Lake is great for fishing, plus there are mountain bike trails, a leash-free dog park, and boat dock.
Hitchcock Nature Center
Distance from Omaha: 17 miles
27792 Ski Hill Loop, Honey Creek, Iowa
Hitchcock has 17 first-come, first-served RV sites. Amenities include: 50-amp electric service, water hookups and hydrants, shower house with flush toilets, picnic table, fire ring, satellite restrooms (non-flush), dump station, and wifi.
West Omaha/NE Lincoln KOA
Distance from Omaha: 24 miles
14601 Highway 6, Gretna, Neb.
KOA is a well-known brand, and you know you can expect plenty of amenities when you stay at one. The West Omaha location has a pool and bounce pad. There's also internet and laundry facilities.
Dog-friendly.
Tubing & Adventures

Glenwood Lake Park Campground
Distance from Omaha: 25 miles
104 Lake Drive, Glenwood, Iowa
The campground has 20 RV sites that are as first-come, first-served only. Twelve sites are full service with 30 or 50 Amp, as well as water and sewer hookups. The remaining sites are 30 Amp, with water hookups.
Louisville State Recreation Area
Distance from Omaha: 27 miles
15810 NE-50, Louisville, Neb.
Newly upgraded camping facilities include showers and restrooms and 223 all-weather camping pads, complete with electrical hookups.
The recreation area has five sandpit lakes, one of which is open for swimming and has a floating playground. Fishing is popular here.
Arrowhead Park
Distance from Omaha: 27 miles
29357 310th St., Neola, Iowa
Arrowhead Park has four camping areas with a total of 54 electrical sites (30- and 50-amp). Modern restrooms and shower house are located near Breezy Lodge. All sites are first come, first served.
Wilson Island State Recreation Area
Distance from Omaha: 27 miles
32801 Camp Ground Lane, Missouri Valley, Iowa
The campground offers 41 campsites, 31 with electricity. Campsites are well shaded and spacious. The campground has modern showers and restrooms, and a playground.
The area's river and chute boat ramps let anglers and recreational boaters get out on the water.
NOTE: Due to flooding in July 2024, the campgrounds are currently closed. Reservations will not be accepted up until July 28.
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park
Distance from Omaha: 30 miles
28500 W. Park Highway, Ashland, Neb.
Mahonney has hard surfaced pads, situated among mature shade trees near Owen Marina Lake. Modern shower/latrine buildings and drinking water are located nearby, as is a coin-operated laundry in the shower building at Little Creek. Trailer dump stations and water are available.
Ashland RV Campground
Distance from Omaha: 31 miles
1301 Ash St., Ashland, Neb.
There are 31 large, paved RV sites at Ashland RV, wiht each site including electric (30/50 amp) and water. Sewer (full hookups) available at premium sites. The campground also has high-speed wireless internet, a laundry facility, and a dump station.
The location is great -- it's only a block away from downtown Ashland.
Platte River State Park
Distance from Omaha: 31 miles
14421 346th St., Louisville, Neb.
Campers will enjoy the state-of-the-art campground with 48 full hookup campsites. All campsites are full-service 50-amp sites that are 20-feet wide and at least 50-feet long. Reservations for 19 sites may be reserved in advance. There are 15 pull through sites and five Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) campsites.
Other amenities include a shower facility, modern restrooms, picnic table and fire ring/grills. There is a fenced dog park along with a playground.
Botna Bend Park
Distance from Omaha: 40 miles
42926 Mahogany Road, Hancock, Iowa
The park has three RV camping areas with a total of 32 sites (some grass sites, some concrete pad sites). The South Campground has both 30- and 50-amp sites, water hydrants and a vault bathroom. Middle Campground has both 30- and 50-amp sites, water hydrants, shower and restroom facilities, and free wifi. The North Campground has 30-amp sites with modern restrooms and water hydrants.
Botna Bend Park has bison and elk herds, as well as hiking trails, playground & nature playscape, and access to the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail.
Luxe Glamping Sites Near Omaha
Luxe camping, or glamping, is for those who like the idea of camping, but prefer not to skip on creature comforts like having a comfy bed, air conditioning, and sometimes, running water.
Louisville State Recreation Area
Distance from Omaha: 27 miles
15810 NE-50, Louisville, Neb.
Louisville just recently added seven Tentrr sites, each fully-equipped canvas tent comes with a bed, Adirondack chairs and a fire pit.
Louisville State Recreaion Area has one swimming beach and a popular, inflatable water obstacle course.
Platte River State Park
Distance from Omaha: 31 miles
14421 346th St., Louisville, Neb.
Platte River State Park's glamping cabins are a little bit of a stretch to call "camping," but they are definitely not the kind of state park cabins you may remember.
There are four lux glamping cabins sleep two people, each with AC and their own bathroom and kitchenette, as well as firepit, picnic table, and semi-private patio.
Kimberly Creek Retreat
Distance from Omaha: 34 miles
30010 Kimberly Drive, Ashland, Neb.
Kimberly Creek has a variety of accommodations, the closest to ccamping being their furnished geo-domes. All glamping units have heating and air conditioning, a kitchenette, and ensuite bathroom with private shower. Dog-friendly.
Best Nest Farm
Distance from Omaha: 37 miles
25978 Pathfield Road, Glenwood, Iowa
One of the newest glamping sites in the area is Best Nest Farm, a quick escape from Omaha in Glenwood, Iowa. Their luxury covered wagons sleep four, and have a bathroom, air conditioning, and a mini kitchenette inside. The farm has animals to meet and feed, hiking trails, and kayaks to use on the nearby lake.
Slattery Vintage Estates
Distance from Omaha: 38 miles
8925 Adams St, Nehawka, Neb.
These glamping tents are within walking distance to a wine tasting room and outdoor wood-fire pizza oven (and occasional weekend live music venue). Tents accommodate up to two people with a full-size, queen- or king-sized bed, dressers with mirrors, coffee service, tables and chairs, rugs and soft bedding. Each tent has electricity and fans/heaters.
Bonus: The tents overlook a vineyard.
Amber Lea Acres
Distance from Omaha: 45 miles
2865 County Road I, Tekamah, Neb.
One of the newest glamping options in Nebraska, Amber Lea Acres has three luxe tents that include king-sized beds and a bathroom with a claw tub (a rarity with glamping!). One tent also includes bunkbeds.
