Description

Elmwood Park has long been a favorite midtown park for my family, and judging by the amount of people always at the park, it’s popular with others, too. It’s mostly sand, though there are several areas that are rubber flooring.

The playground at Elmwood Park has a large playlet for big kids and a smaller one for little kids. The big kid area has several slides, ladders, and a bridge to cross. The little kid area has a small slide and a few climbing and balancing areas. There are traditional swings and baby swings. Typically, there’s also a saucer swing but on my visit in February, it had been removed.

The appeal is all the “extras” at the playground. There are fake trees to climb, large boulders to climb, and a tunnel to crawl through that looks like a fallen log. One thing that stands out for me is the huge amount of sand toys and ride-on toys that are always at the playground. I’m not sure if the city provides these or if families donate them, but they’re always there.
