The Omaha Dining Digest was created out of a love of good food in Omaha. While I have a place to share family-friendly events happening around the city, I didn’t quite have a place for the food events, the drink events, and the cooking classes (that weren’t for the kiddos). And so, the Omaha Dining Digest was born in 2024.
The Omaha Dining Digest is sent out every Tuesday morning, and consists of upcoming food and drink events, classes, wine dinners, and the like, as well as a weekly theme. The first Tuesday of the month always has dining news such as openings. Area restaurants, cafes, breweries, and the like are invited (and encouraged!) to submit upcoming events and news, as well as participate in the weekly themed section. It’s a great way to entice other food lovers to come visit.

The Blackstone District wasn’t always the go-to spot for new restaurants and fun bars in Omaha. However, food did play a role in its early days (hint: it involves Reuben sandwiches and butter brickle ice cream). UPDATE: This post was first published in 2019, and has been updated in October 2023 to reflect the closure…
The longest running restaurant in Omaha is Orsi’s Italian Bakery & Pizzeria. Orsi’s started in 1919 and added pizza in the 1960s. Let’s talk about Orsi’s. I’ve never been inside this tiny place in Little Italy until a rainy day this spring. Kim’s Note: While working on a book about Omaha restaurants that have closed, I…
