Story Weaver

“Story Weaver” is for people who want to tell and/or listen to stories told in and about the natural world in the oral tradition. Once a month at Hitchcock Nature Center, gather with like minded folk and tell a short story about or inspired by the natural world. Stories may be true, fictional, or mythic. They may be inspired by history, fairytale/legend/folklore, personal experience, observation, family history etc. They may be sad, dramatic, funny, wise, or exciting. Stories should relate to nature, the wild, or ecology. They may be stories about plants, animals, rivers, stones, etc. with no human presence at all.

Attendance is welcome whether you wish to tell a story or just listen to stories being told. Free with paid park entrance. Meet in the gallery at the Loess Hills Lodge. Intended for ages 16+.

Some Guidelines:

• Please have your story prepared ahead of the event, to ensure that if fits within the allotted time.
• All stories are to be five minutes or less (with a one-minute grace period)
• Stories should be told not read, please leave your notecards behind when you tell your story.
• Your story should be in some-way related to the natural world.
• Be kind and civil. Avoid using offensive or derogatory language.
• Have fun! The best stories are told by those who enjoy the telling. 
• Be respectful, listen attentively to the stories others are telling.
