Luminarium Summer Programming

Kiewit Luminarium summer events include day time and Night Light programming. Night Light is an 18+ series at the Luminarium.

  • “Explore Life Beyond Earth with Dr. Aidyl Gonzalez” – Thursday, June 6, from 7:30 – 10 p.m. (Night Light); Saturday, June 8, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Ready for an out-of-this-world experience? Soil scientist, educator, and STEM advocate Dr. Aidyl Gonzalez will be at Night Light on June 6, leading guests on a journey into environmental microbiology and astrobiology alongside Luminarium Program Manager Anthony Galdamez. On Saturday, Dr. Gonzalez and Anthony will provide more learning experiences on the museum floor. From fascinating discussions to hands-on activities, this collaboration aims to ignite your curiosity and expand your understanding of the world around us.

  • “Cadence & Harmony: The Intersection of Black Music, Activism & Neuroscience” – Thursday, June 13, 8 p.m. (during Night Light)

    Dive into the fascinating world of Black music, activism, and neuroscience at Night Light (18+) on June 13! Led by Program Coordinator and Juneteenth JoyFest Curator, Alajia McKizia, this experience will feature an engaging panel and interactive demonstration on how music influences our brains and gets us moving. Don’t miss this opportunity to feel the rhythm in the River Room and be sure to visit the Luminarium booth at Juneteenth JoyFest on Saturday, June 15, for even more musical inspiration.

 

  • “Step up to the plate with UNO Biomechanics” –  Thursday, June 13, 7 – 10 p.m. (Night Light); Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

    It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a baseball! In partnership with UNO’s Sports Medicine and Biomechanics department, we’ll explore the science of baseball this summer. Go to Night Light (18+) on Thursday, June 13, for an immersive experience that combines science and sports like never before. We’ll continue the fun on Saturday for all ages. Bring your family and friends down to experience musculoskeletal ultrasounds and learn how to throw the perfect pitch.

 

  • ” Rediscovering Turtle Island with Taylor Keen” –  Thursday, June 20, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. (during Night Light)

    Explore Indigenous cosmology and history in North America with author Taylor Keen, during Night Light on Thursday, June 20. A Cherokee Nation citizen and “Bison Mane” of the Earthen Bison Clan of the Omaha Tribe, Taylor will be discussing his new book: Rediscovering Turtle Island: A First Peoples’ Account of the Sacred Geography of America. The evening will feature a conversation with the author, followed by a book signing and opportunity to purchase a copy of the newly released book.

  • “Shaping a Sustainable Future with the City of Omaha” – Thursday, June 27, 7:30 – 9 p.m. (during Night Light)

    During Night Light (18+) on June 27, the City of Omaha will unveil its Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP) at the Luminarium. Aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, this plan will pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient Omaha. Representatives from HDR, the City, and paleBLUEDot will present an initial draft welcoming your feedback in an engaging Q&A session.
