Family Wild Edible Walk

May 25 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Parents, are you interested in learning more about wild edible plants? Would you like to help your child build confidence in the natural world? Have you always been interested in wild foods, but don’t know where to start? If so, then come see what delicious delicacies the late spring forest has to offer.

As participants walk through and explore the amazing abundance of a May woodland, they’ll learn all about the importance of proper plant identification. They’ll examine some of the dangers associated with foraging and how to avoid them. They’ll talk about ethical harvest and how to be a good member of the natural community. They’ll also take a look at some of the ways these plants can be prepared as foods. And, importantly, they’ll discuss some ways of incorporating these plants into your own landscape. This program will be facilitated by Pottawattamie Conservation Naturalist, Dustin Clayton, a longtime forager and student of wild foods and medicines.

Registration: $5 per person; no charge for children 4 years and under. Be sure to indicate any food allergies or special dietary needs when registering.
