“Cross Current”

Pierce Street Art’s fall group show “Cross Current” is on display Oct. 9 through Nov. 6 featuring 34 Nebraska artists. Opening Reception is Oct. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Closing Reception is Nov. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment Monday through Wednesday.
Artists in the exhibition include Shawn Ballarin, Baylee Bennett, Brendan Bishop, Mina Bolduc, Sarah Craw, Taylor Daniels, LJ De La Cruz, Hannah Demma, Lizz Dyer, Tess E Petersen, Dianne Fago, Kim Goldberg, Frank Hiffernan, Kelsey Janda, Courtney Kenny Porto, Jerry Kinney, Mary Koziol, January Kristine, Kate Laing, Jean Mason, Brad Michael Marr, Emily Mohr, Sarah Parys, Ilaamen Pelshaw, Kristae Peterson, Cindy Rae Mathiasen, Bryan Raymundo, Makenzie Raymundo, Jill Rizzo, Bruce Thiel, Kathleen Van Lieu, Bart Vargas, Brian Wetjen, and Samantha Wicht.
Rather than a shared theme or viewpoint, participants are united by the clarity of their distinct visions. Some of the works on view take the outside world as inspiration, depicting landscapes that capture the Great Plains’ changeable moods and ephemeral beauty. Others wrest pattern from the realm of flat abstraction, suggesting its tactile possibilities, or move off the wall entirely. Color blocks, grids, and modular compositions appear across media, pointing to a collective fascination with structure and rhythm as organizing visual principles. Material experimentation also runs through the show, with artists pushing textile, clay, and fiber
techniques into sculptural and painterly territory — treating traditional craft media as vehicles for abstraction and form.
