Ballet Hispánico In Omaha & All The Events Open To The Public

There’s a unique opportunity for performing arts lovers in Omaha, and it centers on a performance by Ballet Hispánico. Omaha Performing Arts (O-Pa) is bringing the renowned organization – the largest Latinx/Latine/Hispanic cultural organization in the U.S. – to Omaha. During their time in Omaha, there will be three programs open to the public as well as their masterful performance, CARMEN.maquia, on March 12.

CARMEN.maquia is, of course, inspired by the iconic Bizet opera, Carmen. The music in Carmen is so ubiquitous, you don’t have to be an opera lover to recognize it and like it. Gustavo Ramírez Sansano created CARMEN.maquia, a work that is described as “hauntingly beautiful, Picasso-inspired” that’s “physically charged with sensual choreography, fusing contemporary dance with nods to the Spanish paso doble and flamenco.”

And to have New York-based Ballet Hispánico present the piece? It sounds like a night to remember! Ballet Hispánico presents CARMEN.maquia on March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Orpheum Theater. Tickets start at $20.

Events you can attend before the Ballet Hispánico performance

I used to work at O-Pa, so I’m familiar with the educational opportunities offered to the community. Members of visiting dance companies and theater companies lead workshops, so local kids and young professionals get this amazing chance to learn from the best. Typically, these workshop participants already had some experience in whatever was being taught. Ballet Hispánico is offering a multi-day workshop for pre-professional dancers and it will be an incredible opportunity to learn some of the dance company’s innovative choreography (and then perform it for an audience!).

What’s noteworthy about Ballet Hispánico’s visit this year, though, is there’s also a workshop that’s open to people without dance experience. In fact, families are invited to attend and learn! Let’s dive into the programs planned in March:

Ballet Hispánico Social Dance Workshop

March 9, 2025

This is the program that I’m most interested in because I’m definitely not a dancer, but I love the idea of learning from the best. The Ballet Hispánico Social Dance Workshop introduces participants to the exhilarating excitement of dance in this whirl through the world of Ballet Hispánico.

And best of all? There’s a place on the dance floor for all. Family participation encouraged! The workshop is led by Ballet Hispánico CEO Eduardo Vilaro and other members of the company.

Register for the social dance workshop here.

Tip: Participants will receive an opportunity for discounted tickets to CARMEN.maquia.

Ballet Hispánico Pre-Professional Training Experience

March 9-12, 2025

This next program is for dancers ages 16 and older, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn the unique techniques of Latinidad dance. Three Ballet Hispánico Pre-Professional Training Experience workshops will be presented by Ballet Hispánico CEO Eduardo Vilaro and other members of the company, culminating in a “Curtain Warmer” pre-show performance in the Orpheum lobby.
