Where To Take Cooking Classes In Omaha (Updated For 2026)

Cooking classes are a great way to learn new dishes to change up your meals at home. I’ve taken a few around Omaha and, I’m happy to say, my kids are starting to take cooking summer camps as well. In my opinion, learning a new skill is pretty fun. Plus, some of the chef-led culinary classes make fun date nights. If you’re interested in take a cooking class (or maybe a baking class), here are several great options in Omaha.

Sur La Table, 10353 Pacific St., is a national retail store known to sell just about everything your heart desires for the kitchen. It turns out, they also offer classes so you can better use everything you just bought for your kitchen. Multiple lasses are held almost daily and range from knife basics to preparing a complete French meal. Classes are mostly for adults with 14 being the youngest admitted, except for the family classes. In the summer, they offer week-long summer camps for kids and teens.

Barbecue, anyone? Helping U BBQ, 15791 W. Dodge Road, offers a variety of classes throughout the year focusing pizza, brisket, ribs and similar entrees. Participants learn preparation, cooking times, temperatures, foiling and wrapping techniques, and finally finishing. Some classes involve more “hands on” work. Classes range from $85-$249.

The best place to learn about food is a culinary school, right? Metropolitan Community College offers a variety of courses ranging from sauces to prepping whole meals of a particular cuisine. These non-credit classes are held at MCC’s Institute for Culinary Arts, 5370 N. 30th St.

They even have summer camps for kids and teens! My daughter has taken two single-day baking camps with MCC, one for pies and one for puff pastry.

I’m more of a lazy learner, so I rather go to the school’s wine and food pairing meals. These classes are held at the Sage Bistro and the food is already made and you just sit back and learn a little bit while you eat and drink. It’s great and I highly recommend going to one for a unique date night! It also sells out fairly quickly, so act fast if you see open reservations.

There’s so much going on at Pottawattamie Arts Culture & Entertainment, 1001 S. Sixth St., Council Bluffs, Iowa, it’s hard to keep track. Since it’s home to the Kitchen Council, there’s a variety of culinary classes that pop up, from charcuterie board how-to’s to kid’s cooking. Sign up for PACE email updates to hear about future culinary classes.

Omaha Children’s Museum, 500 S. 20th St., typically has at least one food-focused summer camp each year for ages 4 & 5 and 6-8. This year’s camps are called Kitchen World Tour and Kitchen World Tour Jr. Summer camps go on sale in early January each year.

Dan Benigno at Chef Around The Block offers private cooking classes that teach basic knife skills, prepping tips, organization, assembly, and plating. Choose any country to focus on (Thai, Italian, Chinese, and Indian being the most popular). Classes are held at The Block Culinarium, 12221 Mary Plaza, Suite 102.

Sometimes you just want to make pretty things. Classes at Mangelsen’s, 3457 S. 84th St., lean toward the decorating arena of food like cakes and cookies. You can also find decorating classes.

Cakes by Diane, 913 S. 184th St., Elkhorn, Neb., also offers decorating classes. You can sign up for decorating classes for cookies, cakes, and cupcakes throughout the year. She also regularly has a sourdough bread class.

Rebel Rise Gluten Free Bakery & Bistro, 11039 Elm St., also offers baking classes, obviously with an emphasis on gluten-free recipes. They usually announce new classes on their Facebook page.

These are some of the most well-known cooking, decorating, and baking classes in Omaha, but there are more. I recommend subscribing to the Omaha Dining Digest to stay in the know, as I’ll include these regulars as well as the more niche class opportunities each week.
