I’m still in an outdoorsy kick, even if it’s getting to be unbearably hot. If you can stand the heat, I found two fun family events in the morning to give you a little bit of nature without to midday sun beating down. If that’s too much nature for you, you might like the rides and music that are planned at the first ever Nebraska Hispanic Festival.

Nebraska Hispanic Festival

When: Friday, 4 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Ralston Arena, 7300 Q St.

Why: You love rides and kinda dig the salsa (music and/or condiment).

Who’d like this: Lovers of Hispanic culture and music; cultural types; carnival lovers

Heron Haven Educational Program – Lemonade and stories

When: Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m.

Where: Heron Haven, 11809 Old Maple Road

Why: Heron Haven is a FREE little oasis of nature in the middle of the city and worth a visit any day, but if you go on Saturday, you get a little nature education thrown in.

Who’d like this: Nature lovers; children of all ages

 

Gifford Farm Family Fun Saturday – Wild West Day

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Gifford Farm, 700 Camp Gifford Road, Bellevue, Neb.

Why: You can visit a farm without venturing too far out of the city.

Who’d like this: Nature lovers; animal lovers; children of all ages
