SUMMARY:The Primacy of Form
DESCRIPTION:“The Primacy of Form\,” a new sculpture by pioneering sculptor Bruce Beasley\, will be on display at KANEKO from March 21 through Aug. 16\, 2025. Beasley transforms basic geometric shapes into mesmerizing compositions that seem to defy gravity. Working in materials from bronze and granite to Lucite\, his sculptures have commanded international attention since his undergraduate years\, when the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) displayed Beasley’s work with Picasso’s and Duchamp’s in a groundbreaking 1961 exhibition. KANEKO’s soaring spaces provide the perfect setting for these sculptures\, allowing visitors to appreciate their commanding presence and intricate interplay of form and light. \nThrough support from MECA/The Riverfront\, KANEKO is proud to host exhibitions of each artist featured in the park and to produce public programs providing community access to the artists and their work. Stroll through the Gene Leahy Mall Sculpture Park and see the Beasley work “Aeolis 7.”

SUMMARY:Fabrics of Africa: Weaving Culture and Community
DESCRIPTION:The special exhibit “Fabrics of Africa: Weaving Culture and Community” is on display at KANEKO from Feb. 7 to April 27\, 2025. The exhibition includes an interactive element for visitors\, who are invited to contribute to a digital tapestry created through traditional African design elements. As each individual pattern is woven into the whole\, the growing\, evolving piece celebrates both African textiles and our interconnectedness. The exhibit is included with regular admission. \nExhibition curator\, Suzanne Gunn\, was raised in the villages of Kenya. Gunn’s connection to African craftsmanship was instilled through her mother\, who stimulated Gunn’s appreciation for traditional artistry. This early influence inspired Gunn’s subsequent travels across the continent\, where she built lasting relationships with expert artisans and collected extraordinary textiles reflecting both cultural heritage and artistic innovation. \nIn recent years\, there has been a significant shift toward modern printing techniques in fabric production. This transition makes an African exhibit showcasing traditional textiles even more valuable. Such an exhibit not only preserves but also shares the rich history\, culture\, and rituals associated with these fabrics.

SUMMARY:Into Whooperland: A Photographer's Journey With Whooping Cranes
DESCRIPTION:KANEKO and The Nature Conservancy present “Into Whooperland: A Photographer’s Journey With Whooping Cranes” a talk and book signing with Michael Forsberg. Forsberg immersed himself in the world of whooping cranes – a universe of another kind\, and yet reliant on human care. During a five year period\, he followed the last wild whooping crane population\, numbering some 540 birds\, on their narrow\, 2\,500 mile Great Plains flyway from the Texas Gulf Coast to nesting grounds in remote boreal forests of Canada’s Northwest Territories. From inside the whooper portal\, he shares the birds’ saga in his remarkable new book. \nThe program starts at 7 p.m.\, with the book signing starting at 8:30 p.m. Space is limited; you will need to register to attend. \nTicketing details TBA.
