SUMMARY:The Primacy of Form
DESCRIPTION:“The Primacy of Form\,” a new sculpture by pioneering sculptor Bruce Beasley\, will be on display at KANEKO from March 21 through Aug. 16\, 2025. Beasley transforms basic geometric shapes into mesmerizing compositions that seem to defy gravity. Working in materials from bronze and granite to Lucite\, his sculptures have commanded international attention since his undergraduate years\, when the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) displayed Beasley’s work with Picasso’s and Duchamp’s in a groundbreaking 1961 exhibition. KANEKO’s soaring spaces provide the perfect setting for these sculptures\, allowing visitors to appreciate their commanding presence and intricate interplay of form and light. \nThrough support from MECA/The Riverfront\, KANEKO is proud to host exhibitions of each artist featured in the park and to produce public programs providing community access to the artists and their work. Stroll through the Gene Leahy Mall Sculpture Park and see the Beasley work “Aeolis 7.”

SUMMARY:"Beyond the Finishing Point"
DESCRIPTION:“Beyond the Finishing Point” showcases Jun Kaneko’s collaborative drawings with 3-year-old Ana Citrin. The exhibit runs through Oct. 8. \n\n\n\nThe collection reveals what happens when mastery meets uninhibited expression. The series emerged from Kaneko’s fundamental artistic question – How do you know when a work is finished? – explored during his tenure as Head of Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art. \n\n\n\nIn this extraordinary partnership\, Ana became the decision-maker\, determining when each drawing was complete. “I made a rule\,” Kaneko explains. “When she said\, ‘new paper\,’ no matter what\, I had to stop and change the paper.” Their Saturday sessions\, spanning over two years\, produced works that bridge disciplined technique and pure creative instinct. The exhibition invites viewers into a meditation on artistic boundaries\, revealing the profound connections that form when an established artist surrenders control to spontaneity and trust.
