SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count For Kids
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the birds that call Schramm home during the winter while participating in the longest-running community science project in the country. During the event\, participants can choose to help count birds on a hike in the forest\, on a hike down to the Platte River\, or indoors watching the bird feeders. Naturalists will provide a limited number of binoculars\, so you’re encouraged to bring your own if you have them. If you choose to hike\, the walk will be about a mile. The trails may be muddy or slick depending on weather conditions. \nDuring the count\, participants will be recording the number and type of birds they see. After the count\, everyone will return to the Schramm Classroom to tally results and make bird crafts. The event is rain\, snow or sunshine\, so dress prepared for the weather.  \nChristmas Bird Count for Kids Schedule \n\n10:00-10:20: Christmas Bird Count Welcome\, Birding Basics\, and Introduction to Schramm Winter Birds in the Schramm Classroom\n10:20-11:30: Outdoor Bird Hikes & Indoor Feeder Watch\n11:30-12:00: Tally Results and Make Bird Crafts in the Schramm Classroom\n\nThis is the 124th year for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Each year\, thousands of volunteers help conduct an early-winter bird census in over 20 countries in the Western Hemisphere between the dates of December 14th and January 5th. Reports from each of these counts are sent to the Audubon Society\, which compiles the data to help inform researchers about the status of bird populations. When the Christmas Bird Count was first started in the year 1900\, it was held annually on Christmas Day to promote conservation\, hence the name. \nThe cost to participate is $4 per child (ages 4 and up; children ages 3 and under are free) and $5 per adult. The cost includes the program and admission to the Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass Members participate free. A state park vehicle permit is not required in the Schramm Education Center parking lot.

The exhibit is included with regular museum admission. \nVisitors will journey through Julia’s life\, as she explored the world and discovered her sense of curiosity including the moment that ignited her love for French cuisine and inspired her career. At the heart of the exhibition\, Julia’s passion for teaching is explored through her meticulous process of recipe development for Mastering the Art of French Cooking and The French Chef\, culminating with her legacy of inspiring chefs of all levels. \nKey Experiences: \n\nInteractive The French Chef television set\nVideo\, audio and photography documenting Julia\, her distinctive voice\, and her extraordinary contributions to the culinary world\nSounds and smells of Julia’s kitchen\nVisitors can view and share memories of Julia’s legacy\n\nJulia Child: A Recipe for Life is a touring exhibition produced and managed by Flying Fish\, developed in collaboration with Napa Valley Museum\, under the rights granted by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and The Schlesinger Library Radcliffe Institute\, Harvard University\, and generously supported by Oceania Cruises.

See the largest indoor tree in the region will be on display and the Holiday Cultural Trees Display located in the museum’s galleries. Included with museum admission. \nSpecial events: \n\nThe tree lighting ceremony is on Nov. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m.\nSanta will be at the museum on weekends from Nov. 29 through Dec. 22 with this schedule: Fridays & Saturdays\, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.; Sundays\, noon to 3 p.m. Family Nights With Santa are Tuesdays\, Dec. 3\, 10 & 17\, from 5 to 8 p.m.\nHe’ll also visit on Dec. 17-18 and Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.\nHoliday Concert Series will have shows on Saturdays and Tuesdays\, Nov. 30 through Dec. 21.
