SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count For Kids
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the birds that call Schramm home during the winter while participating in the longest-running community science project in the country. During the event\, participants can choose to help count birds on a hike in the prairie or on a hike down to the Platte River. During the count\, everyone will record the number and type of birds seen. After we count\, return to the Schramm Classroom to tally results and make bird crafts.  \n\n\n\nEvent is rain\, snow or sunshine\, so dress prepared for the weather! A limited number of binoculars will be provided. \n\n\n\nThe cost to participate is $5 per person (ages 3 and under free). The cost includes the program and admission to the Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass Members participate free. A state park vehicle permit is not required in the Schramm Education Center parking lot.

DESCRIPTION:Winterland Ice Skating at Heartwood Park runs from Nov. 1 through Feb. 1\, 2026. Ice skating and skate rentals are free\, courtesy of Applied Underwriters. Visitors can view the schedule and reserve their 90-minute skating sessions now. While reservations are encouraged\, a limited number of walk-ups will be accommodated on a first-come\, first-served basis.  \n\n\n\nWinterland\n\n\n\nWinterland at Heartwood Preserve will once again be set against a backdrop of holiday decorations and festive music\, and on weekends\, a local coffee truck will be onsite serving up seasonal beverages and treats to help guests stay warm between laps on the ice. \n\n\n\nFrom Nov. 1-23 and Jan. 9-Feb. 1\, it’s weekend-only skating on Friday\, Saturday and Sunday.
