SUMMARY:Annual Winter Solstice Night Hike
DESCRIPTION:Hitchcock Nature Center’s Annual Winter Solstice Night Hike is open to all ages 5+ (due to terrain). The hike along Fox Run Ridge celebrates the longest night and the return of the Sun. At the cliff’s edge\, there will be a small celebratory ceremony to welcome in the new year. \nThe event is free with a $5/vehicle entry fee or park membership; pre-registration is required.  The event will be held “snow” or shine. In the event of dangerous/inclement weather\, they will provide a programming update via the email you used to register. \nNote: Regular flashlights are extremely disruptive to yours and other visitor’s night vision as well as to wildlife. Please consider using a red light\, which is a great option for night time activities\, or using your natural night vision to navigate through the park.

DESCRIPTION:The annual event at Platte River State Park\, Yule Log Festival\, will be held on Dec. 21 at the park’s Walter Scott Jr. Lodge. Activities include making pinecone bird feeders and other kid-friendly crafts\, camp games\, pictures with Santa\, free lighted hayrack rides\, and free marshmallow roasting. There will also be a Winter Holiday Cooking Decorating Contest. Bring your decorated festive platter of cookies; the winner will be announced at 2:15 p.m. \nAdditionally\, the Yule Log Quest will take place in the park. Teams may register by calling Platte River State Park at (402) 234-2217.) \nA 2024 Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.
