SUMMARY:"Sadie Barnette"
DESCRIPTION:Joslyn Art Museum will have an exhibition featuring Sadie Barnette through Jan. 3\, 2027 in the Scott Pavilion Riley CAP Gallery S8. NOTE: The museum stays open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. \n\n\n\nWorking across drawing\, sculpture\, photography\, and installation\, Barnette mines both personal narratives and collective histories\, exploring how the two intersect and diverge over the course of one’s life. Her exhibition in the CAP Gallery centers on a recording she discovered on a doorbell security camera. In the short black-and-white video\, the artist’s father is seen removing helium balloons from the trunk of a car. As he wrangles the inflatables – a gift for the artist’s mother – a single heart-shaped balloon floats away without his notice\, prompting a bewildered search of the vehicle. Upon reviewing the footage\, Barnette recognized that an easily overlooked episode had many stories to tell about gestures of affection\, about bearing witness to everyday life\, and about the transformation of a fleeting moment into the stuff of family lore.

SUMMARY:“Cross Current”
DESCRIPTION:Pierce Street Art’s fall group show “Cross Current” is on display Oct. 9 through Nov. 6 featuring 34 Nebraska artists. Opening Reception is Oct. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Closing Reception is Nov. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment Monday through Wednesday. \n\n\n\nArtists in the exhibition include Shawn Ballarin\, Baylee Bennett\, Brendan Bishop\, Mina Bolduc\, Sarah Craw\, Taylor Daniels\, LJ De La Cruz\, Hannah Demma\, Lizz Dyer\, Tess E Petersen\, Dianne Fago\, Kim Goldberg\, Frank Hiffernan\, Kelsey Janda\, Courtney Kenny Porto\, Jerry Kinney\, Mary Koziol\, January Kristine\, Kate Laing\, Jean Mason\, Brad Michael Marr\, Emily Mohr\, Sarah Parys\, Ilaamen Pelshaw\, Kristae Peterson\, Cindy Rae Mathiasen\, Bryan Raymundo\, Makenzie Raymundo\, Jill Rizzo\, Bruce Thiel\, Kathleen Van Lieu\, Bart Vargas\, Brian Wetjen\, and Samantha Wicht. \n\n\n\nRather than a shared theme or viewpoint\, participants are united by the clarity of their distinct visions. Some of the works on view take the outside world as inspiration\, depicting landscapes that capture the Great Plains’ changeable moods and ephemeral beauty. Others wrest pattern from the realm of flat abstraction\, suggesting its tactile possibilities\, or move off the wall entirely. Color blocks\, grids\, and modular compositions appear across media\, pointing to a collective fascination with structure and rhythm as organizing visual principles. Material experimentation also runs through the show\, with artists pushing textile\, clay\, and fibertechniques into sculptural and painterly territory — treating traditional craft media as vehicles for abstraction and form.
