SUMMARY:All Aboard: The Railroad In Art
DESCRIPTION:The temporary exhibition “All Aboard: The Railroad in American Art\, 1840–1955” is on display at The Joslyn Art Museum from Feb. 15 through May 4. Tickets are $10 for the general public ages 13 and older; members and children 12 and under are free.  \nExhibit free days: \n\nFirst weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (March 1 & 2\, April 5 & 6\, and May 3 & 4)\nFirst Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. (March 5 and April 2)\nFirst Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m. (March 6\, April 3\, and May 1)\n\nThe exhibit explores depictions of trains and train infrastructure in American painting during the 19th and 20th centuries. From its emergence as a technological marvel in mid-nineteenth century landscape views to its adoption by artists as a symbol of modern life and industry\, the railroad was a significant motif in several major art movements. \nFeaturing paintings from the Hudson River School to postwar abstraction\, the exhibition considers the impact of the railroad on American art through significant works by Albert Bierstadt\, Thomas Hart Benton\, John Sloan\, Georgia O’Keeffe\, Jacob Lawrence\, George Tooker\, Kay Sage\, and others. Depictions of rail workers and passengers present trains as spaces for distinct forms of social interaction. Other works illuminate the railroad as an engine of modernity\, but also a cause of population displacement\, labor struggles\, and environmental destruction that changed the fabric of American life\, from the urban centers of the East Coast to the Heartland and Pacific Ocean. \nTue–Sun: 10 am–4 pm\nLate until 8 pm on Wed & Thu\nClosed Mon and major holidays

SUMMARY:Fabrics of Africa: Weaving Culture and Community
DESCRIPTION:The special exhibit “Fabrics of Africa: Weaving Culture and Community” is on display at KANEKO from Feb. 7 to April 27\, 2025. The exhibition includes an interactive element for visitors\, who are invited to contribute to a digital tapestry created through traditional African design elements. As each individual pattern is woven into the whole\, the growing\, evolving piece celebrates both African textiles and our interconnectedness. The exhibit is included with regular admission. \nExhibition curator\, Suzanne Gunn\, was raised in the villages of Kenya. Gunn’s connection to African craftsmanship was instilled through her mother\, who stimulated Gunn’s appreciation for traditional artistry. This early influence inspired Gunn’s subsequent travels across the continent\, where she built lasting relationships with expert artisans and collected extraordinary textiles reflecting both cultural heritage and artistic innovation. \nIn recent years\, there has been a significant shift toward modern printing techniques in fabric production. This transition makes an African exhibit showcasing traditional textiles even more valuable. Such an exhibit not only preserves but also shares the rich history\, culture\, and rituals associated with these fabrics.

SUMMARY:The Primacy of Form
DESCRIPTION:“The Primacy of Form\,” a new sculpture by pioneering sculptor Bruce Beasley\, will be on display at KANEKO from March 21 through Aug. 16\, 2025. Beasley transforms basic geometric shapes into mesmerizing compositions that seem to defy gravity. Working in materials from bronze and granite to Lucite\, his sculptures have commanded international attention since his undergraduate years\, when the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) displayed Beasley’s work with Picasso’s and Duchamp’s in a groundbreaking 1961 exhibition. KANEKO’s soaring spaces provide the perfect setting for these sculptures\, allowing visitors to appreciate their commanding presence and intricate interplay of form and light. \nThrough support from MECA/The Riverfront\, KANEKO is proud to host exhibitions of each artist featured in the park and to produce public programs providing community access to the artists and their work. Stroll through the Gene Leahy Mall Sculpture Park and see the Beasley work “Aeolis 7.”
