Celebrating the holidays on a budget is easy in Omaha – there are dozens of free events, markets, and chances to meet Santa in November and December. Here’s a rundown of all budget-friendly Christmas events in Omaha in 2022.

Santa’s Wonderland

When: Nov. 5 through Dec. 24, 2022

Where: Bass Pro Shops, 2901 Bass Pro Drive, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Cabela’s, 12703 Westort Parkway, LaVista, Neb.

What: Santa arrived extra early this year. Reserve a time to see Santa online starting Oct. 30, and get a free picture with him.

Cost: FREE

Holiday Popup Series

When: Saturdays, Nov. 5 through Dec. 17, noon to 3 p.m.

Where: Mulhalls, 3615 N. 120th St.

What: Local makers and other small businesses will set up pop-up shops throughout the holidays. List of vendors here.

Season of Lights

When: Nov. 13 through Feb. 14, 2023

Where: Turner Park at Midtown Crossing, 31st and Farnam streets, Omaha

What: Thousands of lights will adorn trees at Turner Park and along Farnam Street.

Cost: FREE

“The Giving Snowman” StoryWalk

When: Nov. 20 through Dec. 31

Where: 100 block of West Broadway in Council Bluffs, Iowa

What: Kids and families are invited to take a walk through the 100 block as they read pages from a book displayed in business windows. More details here.

Holiday Lights Festival Lighting Displays

When: Nov. 24 through Jan. 2, 2023

Where: Old Market (10th to 13th streets, and from Harney to Jackson streets), North Omaha (six-block area around 24th and Lake streets) and South Omaha (24th Street between L and Q streets).

What: Gorgeous light displays in three iconic areas of Omaha.

Cost: FREE

Christmas in Olde Towne Holiday Lights & Music Show

When: Nov. 24 through Jan. 7, 2023; Sunday-Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. (complete show), Friday-Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m. (complete show), and a show for people with light and sound sensitivities Sunday-Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m.

Where: Washington Park on Franklin Street in Bellevue, Neb.

What: Bellevue’s annual drive-thru holiday lights show

Cost: FREE

Lights of Aksarben

When: Nov. 25 through end of December on Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m.; lighting ceremony will be on Nov. 25

Where: Stinson Park at Aksarben Village, 2232 S. 64th St.

What: Stinson Park will be transformed into a festive wonderland filled with fun, excitement, and activities for all ages. Cocoa With a Cop is on Dec. 9.

Cost: FREE

Holiday Miniature Village Display

When: Nov. 25 through Jan. 7, 2023

Where: Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center, 1001 S. Sixth St., Council Bluffs, Iowa

Cost: FREE

Omaha Nativity Celebration

When: Dec. 2 & 3, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 14680 California St.

What: Hundreds of nativities from around the world will be on display, and there will be Christmas music, and cookies.

Cost: FREE (non-perishable food items are being collected)

Santa Palooza

When: Dec. 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WhereSCHEELS at Village Pointe Shopping Center 168th and Dodge streets 

What: Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the store, and there will be fun holiday activities.

Cost: FREE

Christmas in the Village

When: Dec. 3, noon to 5 p.m.

Where: Between 24th and Burdette streets and 24th & Ohio streets

WhatChristmas in the Village is one of the fastest growing events in North Omaha and is part of the ongoing North Omaha Village Zone Revitalization Plan.

Cost: FREE

Santa Visits Kros Strain Brewing 

When: Dec. 3, noon to 3 p.m.

Where: Kros Strain Brewing Co., 10411 Portal Road, suite 102, La Vista, Neb. 

What: When you arrive you will check in and be placed in a digital line, so all you have to do is enjoy all of of our offerings and wait for a text when it’s your turn to visit Santa. Bring a camera. arrive earlier in the day if you have young children or infants.

Lights Walk 5k & 10k 

When: Dec. 3 at 5 p.m.

Where: KANEKO, 1111 Jones St.

What: Arrive between 4 and 6 p.m., sign the waiver, grab a map and head on out. When you return, there will be have cookies and hot drinks and over 100 raffle prizes to win.

Cost: FREE; they are collecting diapers for the Lydia House.

Physicians Mutual Holiday Market

When: Dec. 3-4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Where: Aksarben Village, 2285 S. 67th St.

What: Shop local vendors, enjoy food and beverages from Benson Brewery, and celebrate the holiday season.  

Cost: FREE

Meet Santa & Reindeer

When: Dec. 3 and 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WhereBel Aire Plaza, 12100 West Center Road

What: Santa will be present to talk to the children in a heated tent while they enjoy hot cocoa, individually-wrapped cookies, mingle with his reindeer.

Cost: FREE

Holly Jolly Days

When: Dec. 3 and 10, 2 to 6 p.m.

WhereThe RiverFront at Gene Leahy Mall, 11th and Farnam streets

What: Enjoy photos with seasonal characters such as Santa Claus, reindeer, and the Grinch, plus story time by the fire pits, holiday cookie decorating, carolers, train rides

Cost: FREE

KETV Family Festival

When: Dec. 4, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Various venues in downtown Omaha

What: A day of free holiday activities. More details to come.

Cost: FREE

Outdoor Holiday Market

When: Dec. 4, noon to 4 p.m.

Where: Parking lot of Crescent Moon Ale House/Huber Haus Bier Hall, 3578 Farnam St.

What: Shop the vendor tables while listening to some of your favorite holiday music and stop by one of the fire pits for a quick warm up. Sip on German Gluhwein, Peppermint Hot Cocoa and Holiday Beers. There will also be roasted Bavarian Candied Nuts, Bratwurst and other street foods.

Christmas in Germany

When: Dec. 4, noon to 6 p.m.

WhereGerman-American Society, 3717 S. 120th St.

What: Traditional German food, drink and entertainment plus a visit from St. Nikolaus. The club will also be decorated but the highlight is the 25-foot-tall Weinachtsbaum (Christmas Tree) in the main hall with all hand carved ornaments.

Elkhorn Tree Lighting Party

When: Dec. 4, 4 to 5:30 p.m. (tree lighting is at 5:15 p.m.)

Where: Along Main Streets in Olde Towne Elkhorn

What: The evening will feature Santa and his elves, live Christmas music, free food, s’mores and hot cocoa.

Irish Christmas at Father Flanagan’s Historic Home

When: Dec. 4-10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: 14153 Grodinsky Circle (137th and West Dodge Road) Boystown, Neb.

What: In honor of his Irish heritage, Flanagan’s former home is decorated this holiday season featuring Irish Christmas traditions. Explore and learn about the holiday celebrations of his homeland and view Christmas quilts, antique toys and ornaments from the 1920s to 1940s.

Santa at Ollie & Hobbes

When: Dec. 5 and 12, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; reindeer will be with him on Dec. 5

Annual Christmas Party

When: Dec. 9, 6 to 10 p.m.

WhereSozo Coffeehouse, 1314 Jones St.

What: Dinner, game room, drinks, snacks, and family-friendly crafts at Sozo, sponsored by Omaha Christian Collaborative Humble Kingz.

Illuminate Inclusion

When: Dec. 9 & 10, 5 to 9 p.m.

Where: At the water park entrance off 156th Street at Zorinsky Lake

What: A family-friendly light display fundraiser for Imagine Inclusion, a nonprofit working to build the first accessible and inclusive playground at Zorinsky Lake. Radio Talking Book Services will provide the audio description of the event.

Cost: FREE (free-will donations will be accepted)

Drive-thru Living Nativity

When: Dec. 9 & 10, 6 to 8 p.m.

Where: Gretna Baptist Church, 20725 E. Angus St., Gretna, Neb.

What: It’s a drive-thru trip through Bethlehem as to witness Caesar August call for his subjects to be registered, watch the innkeeper stay busy with his guests, see the shepherds and angels in the fields, the Babe in the manger, and the rest of the beautiful story of Jesus. This event is free, family-friendly, and open to all.

City Sprouts Holiday Market

When: Dec. 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: 4002 Seward St.

WhatFundraiser selling homemade goods and baked goodies. Free ornament making and hot drinks. 

Cost: FREE

ArtisTREES

When: Dec. 10, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Harvester Artist Lofts & Gallery, 1000 S. Main St., Council Bluffs, Iowa

What: An artist-made holiday with a large collection of artist-decorated trees and winter- and holiday-themed art show. Come walk in the fun and artistic winter wonderland and purchase that special ornament, tree, decor and more.

Winter Market

When: Dec. 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WhereZen Coffee, 2504 Farnam St. and 2505 S. 133rd Ave.

What: Hot chocolate bar and small businesses showing off their holiday merchandise.

Omaha Flea Holiday Makers Market

When: Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Café Postale, 950 S. 10th St.

What: 20 local vendors, DIY wreath bar, and Polaroids with Santa.

Holiday Gifts Artisan Market

When: Dec. 10, noon to 4 p.m.

WhereKimpton Cottonwood Hotel, 302 S. 36th St.

Arts & Drafts

When: Dec. 10, 1 to 7 p.m.

Where: Dubliner Pub, 1205 Harney St.

What: An all-ages event with a holiday art market, craft beer tasting by Exile Brewery, Irish cuisine by pop-up restaurant Harp & Fare, with live music during the event followed by a clean comedy show at 6 p.m.

Cookies & Cocoa with Santa

When: Dec. 10, 2 to 4 p.m.

Where: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2444 N. Broadway, Council Bluffs, Iowa

What: Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa and visit with Santa. This is a free event and open to the public.

T&T Holiday Party

When: Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

WhereTrucks and Taps, 5402 S. 108th St.

What: Cookie decorating kits for the kiddos all day. Santa is coming for a meet-and-greet and photos from 3-4 pm! And then, if the weather is pleasant enough, there will be live music from 5 to 7 p.m. To keep the holiday mood flowin’, Christmas movies will be shown on the big screen all day and yummy holiday drink specials will be available at the bar.

Santa Claus is Coming to Sheelytown

When: Dec. 10, 1 to 4 p.m.

What: Kids and their grownups are welcome to snap photos with Santa.

What: More than 100 booths of local makers and small businesses.

When: Dec. 16, 2:30 to 6 p.m.

WhereHy-Vee, 16418 Westside Drive, Plattsmouth, Neb.

What: Meet Santa and reindeer as well as enjoy decorating cookies and crafts.

Christmas Storytime

When: Dec. 17, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Where: Barreras Farm Market, 14449 F St.

What: The farm market’s monthly storytime this month is all about Christmas – fun books and a Santa craft! Storytime is geared towards 3-6 years old, but all ages are welcome.

A Christmas Story, S’mores & Sweaters

What: Yule is a celebration of the winter solstice and is celebrated Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 this year. There will be spiced foods and ale, burning negative energies and making traveling yule logs out of pinecones.
