Fun Things To Do In Omaha Aug. 14-16

You survived the first week of school! Yay! (or you’re like my kids and still have a few more days of summer to go)

Anyway. Let’s celebrate and go do something fun. Here are three fun things to do in Omaha – or nearby – this weekend:

Family Fun Saturday

When: Saturday, 6 to 9 p.m.

Where: Gifford Farm Education Center, 700 Camp Gifford Road, Bellevue, Neb.

Why: It’s the farm’s summer send-off plus teacher appreciation night. Evening includes a hayrack ride and marshmallow roasting.

Who’d like this: Teachers and their families; outdoorsy types; younger kids

Night Sky Event

When: Saturday, 8:30 to 11 p.m.

Where: Hitchcock Nature Center, 27792 Ski Hill Loop, Honey Creek, Iowa

Why: You’re hoping to get a glimpse of the Perseids’ Meteor Shower using a telescope way out of your price range.

Who’d like this: Night owls; older kids; outdoorsy types; astronomy geeks and beginners

Tip: Cost is $2 per person, plus you’ll want to bring your own blankets, lawn chairs and binoculars.

When: Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: General Crook House Museum, 5730 N. 30th St.

Why: It’s your kid’s chance (OK, it’s YOUR chance) to ride in a vintage car. Plus you’re a big vintage car geek anyway, so do I really need to tell you it’s the 1915 Ford Model T’s 100th birthday? (And it’s the only FREE event on this list)

Who’d like it: Car enthusiasts; kids who like things that go; history buffs
