Independence Day Celebrations This Weekend

Sure, we all have plans this Fourth of July weekend, and I’m guessing they involve fireworks, the grill and family time. In case you want to plan around all that good stuff, here are a few fun things to do in Omaha this weekend:


Family Night at the Museum

When: Friday, 5 to 7 p.m.

Where: Union Pacific Railroad Museum, 200 Pearl St., Council Bluffs, Iowa

Why: It’s a family-friendly night out and it’s FREE. Why not?

Who’d like it: Train lovers; historians, families on a budget


Living History – Independence Day Celebration

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Fort Atkinson State Historical Park, 201 S. Seventh St., Fort Calhoun, Neb.

Why: Your kids will have a whole new appreciation for the significance of the Fourth of July with this throwback celebration. They’ll even read the Declaration of Independence this weekend.

Who’d like it: Imaginative kids; history buffs; families on a budget (it’s not FREE – it requires a state parks pass, but it’s pretty cheap)

Star Spangled Day

When: Monday, noon to 8 p.m.

Where: All Omaha public pools

Why: Cheap swimming all day long on the Fourth of the July? Oh yeah! Entry is just $1.

Who’d like this: Active families; families on a budget
